Rooms are lovely but there's no air conditioning making them a bit stuffy in the summer. The basic breakfast is a little limited in the selection of foods offered. You need to pay extra for cooked foods.
One can only describe the kings head as a hidden gem in the centre of Darlington. Set in Christmassy surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town centre. Had an amazing festive afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday with amazing friends. Everything was perfect from start to finish, service was down to a tea starting with the dreamy hot chocolate right up to to the tasty selection of treats. One should consider visiting here if you are looking for tasty food and excellent service.

Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are individually decorated with comfy beds and spotlessly clean. Good supply of toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. Lovely breakfast with lots of choice - full English, omelettes with various fillings or creamy porridge with granola - plus fresh fruit, cereals, croissants and creamy Normandy yogurts. An excellent place to stay.
Nice hotel for the price and age of last update. Could use an update but overall the bed is comfortable and is very quite. Food and bar are excellent, would like a better beer menu for being in the UK. Close to other food location and get free gym access to Bannatyne Gym but is a fairly long walk.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel and it's staff. They have done an amazing job from top to bottom. No detail has been overlooked. It is a testament to the fact that you can have a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location and still set yourself miles apart with an amazing staff and wonderful service. Form the moment we arrived, we were made to feel special. Everyone had a smile on their face and did everything they could to make us feel welcome. The rooms are comfortable and incredibly well designed. I stayed in room 246, which has a stunning view of the grounds . anything you need is a quick phone call away. Or you can just pop your head outside and ask someone at the restaurant for help...there are no shortage of willing participants. Even the cooks in the kitchen offered to help from time to time. As I said, I cannot say enough and could go on forever. If you want to know more, please just message me. I am happy to go into much greater detail. But the bottom line - I recommend this hotel without reservation...to anyone...go as much as you possibly can.
My husband and I stayed at this wonderful hotel last weekend..We've stayed before and it was amazing..the staff are so helpful and courteous..The only down side was the waiting time for food in the restaurant on the first morning..there was one lovely lad trying to replenish the buffet with people waiting for eggs..bacon..bread etc..I felt he had been thrown to the lions as people were complaining the food was running out.. not his fault and he was apologetic and constantly working hard..not sure of his name..There were 2 wedding parties in and a football team.. so busy..we did have a lovely stay and I would return..the hotel is immaculate and steeped in history

Have visited several times while visiting partners family. Good varied menu, good choice of cask and keg ales. Dogs allowed in certain areas. Staff friendly and helpful.
Nice little country pub just outside Darlington. Good selection of well kept beers, and quiet on a weekday afternoon. Family friendly.

The pies in this pub are AMAZING! drinks are a bit pricy though... The food is incredible and the staff are all very happy to see new faces and regular ones too. The staff are probably some of the most friendly I have ever met. The pup is compact and can get a little crowded but during the summer and good weather they provide seating outside in the market square. I recommend you stop by if not for a pie just grab a drink and say hi to the staff.
A very stylish bar right in the heart of Darlington with a wonderful menu and fantastic burgers! They have a great drink selection and are always busy, you can reserve tables and they get quite busy on weekends so if you're going with a big group and want a table, I'd call ahead! A great bar!

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Nice food. I had a chicken BLT and fries. Very nice. Its a cozy little place. It will be worth another visit when I'm not so rushed so I can enjoy some of the beer selection.
Despite advertising casserole dishes of stew with puff pastry lids as 'pies', this is a decent place to eat. The dishes are tasty and service good and the staff are pleasant and helpful. I went for the vegetarian tart and it was well prepared, although the salad was unadventurous (my mother used to call lettuce/tomato/cucumber a salad, but that was over 50 years ago). Beer selection is fine, although pricey (£4.35/pint - more expensive than Cambridge!). Well worth a visit overall though.

Staff are friendly great place 4 nite out good atmosphere but a little ruff
Cheap budget rooms. Nice bar with great atmosphere. Go elsewhere for breakfast. As £5 for toast and jam? Yeah. Better options in town.

Exceptional host and value for money. Andrew went out of his way to provide the best level of service possible.
A really lovely place to stay--- Andrew & his "gang" are 1st class --- rooms are excellent as are the breakfasts--- guests are made to feel very welcome-- I would rate this establishment as a 11 out of 10 in everything.
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
